Working Titles

Sometimes you don’t know how much you need to hear a song until you hear it.

A few days ago, one of my closest friends sent me Damien Jurado’s “Working Titles” because he can’t seem to stop listening to it, and he wanted to know what I thought.

I had a hard time telling him, though, because I burst into tears. I should’ve known better than to listen to a Damien Jurado song I’d never heard for the first time yesterday; I was having a rough night.

This is the line that killed me (in a good way):

“As sure as the rain that will fall where you stand, I want you and the skyline. These are my demands.”

Such beautiful, complex, pure songwriting. This song (the above line in particular) was exactly what I needed to hear last night, and I didn’t even know it until I heard it.
